New Thesis

Information for Reviewers

An electronic peer review form is available for downloading at the bottom of this page. These will normally be e-mailed to reviewers along with the manuscript, but it has been made available here to assist authors and editors.

Reviewers are asked to bear in mind that New Thesis is not a traditional journal in that authors are encouraged to include introductory or tutorial material to broaden the appeal of their paper or to introduce their work to a different target audience. This is catered for by a generous page allowance, and the introductory material should not be allowed to detract from the academic, technical and / or scholarly quality of the paper; this is neither a tutorial nor a review journal. Individual papers are expected to be of interest to a sub-section of the overall readership, but the General Abstract should indicate the significance of the paper to as wide an audience as possible.

It may be helpful to consider each manuscript as a condensed doctoral dissertation. Although the page allowance does prevent the paper from being stand-alone in the manner that may be expected of a dissertation, it should lean towards this more than a shorter academic paper would. Alternatively, the paper may be considered as consisting of two parts: a tutorial paper in subject A, and a formal paper that applies the ideas discussed in the tutorial paper to subject area B. This assumes that the author, an expert in subject A, is interested in stimulating discussion and application of these ideas in novel ways to subject area B (material presented relating to B should still be of high academic quality, nonetheless).

Reviewers are also encouraged to read the Editorial Policy document, which can be downloaded below, and may like to glance at other material that appears on the Authors page. Please contact the editor if anything requires clarification.

Although New Thesis has slightly different aims to other academic journals, the published papers should be of equal quality. Reviewers are asked to consider this throughout the review process.
